Leave A Legacy

A significant proportion of our vital funds comes from individual donations as a result of leaving a legacy in a Will. The Film & TV Charity is there to support those most in need.

Every year, we provide over £1 million of support to hundreds of individuals and families affected by accidents, illness, bereavement, redundancy or general financial difficulties. Our support team does this through one-off grants or on-going support as long as it is needed.

Every year, we provide over £1 million of support to hundreds of individuals and families affected by accidents, illness, bereavement, redundancy or general financial difficulties. Our support team does this through one-off grants or on-going support as long as it is needed.

Our support visitors carefully assess every person or family to see how we can best help. Sometimes, we’re asked to cover one-off emergencies, such as replacing a washing machine or boiler. Or we may cover heating bills or help with mortgage payments, so people can stay in their homes.

Through the John Brabourne Awards (JBAs) we also support emerging talent develop their career in the Film & TV industry who wouldn’t otherwise be able to do so due to personal or financial setbacks.

Each person is assessed on their own merits and every penny is spent carefully.

A Message from Stephen Fry

Why leave a legacy to The Film & TV Charity?

Although technology has dramatically changed the landscape of the UK film, cinema and television industries since The Film & Television Charity was established over 90 years ago, the work of the charity remains vital and constant in providing care, advice and financial support to industry employees and their families in times of great need.

If anything, working today can be even more precarious than before, with so many colleagues depending on short-term contracts. It only takes a sudden illness or the loss of a contract to create a potential crisis.

What difference can a gift in your will make?

Many of The Film & TV Charity’s generous supporters remember its work when making or updating their Will, either as a share of their estate or a specific amount. A gift in your Will to The Film & TV Charity can:

  • Help a colleague through a time of crisis
  • Take away financial worries for someone struck down by illness
  • Provide a vital hand-up to some of our emerging industry talent
  • Support a family caring for a sick child
  • Help a retired industry veteran struggling to make ends meet

In this industry, we need to look after our own. If like me you are glad to have a career in this wonderful industry, please help The Film & TV Charity to be there for others with a gift in your Will.

Thank you so much for your support!
