Royal Film Performance™

Celebrating Film and Supporting the Industry

About the Royal Film Performance™

The Royal Film Performance™ is an exclusive event that unites film lovers, industry professionals, and royalty to celebrate the achievements of those working behind the scenes in the UK film and TV industry. With a legacy dating back to 1946, this prestigious event supports The Film and TV Charity, raising essential funds to help industry professionals through services like our 24/7 Support Line.

The History of the Royal Film Performance™

The first Royal Command Film Performance was held in 1946 with the premiere of Powell and Pressburger’s A Matter of Life and Death at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square. The event was graced by HM King George VI, HM Queen Elizabeth, HRH Princess Elizabeth, and HRH Princess Margaret. Since then, we’ve hosted 71 Royal Film Performances™, premiering iconic films such as:

  • To Catch A Thief (1955)
  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1978)
  • Passage To India (1985)
  • Titanic (1997)
  • Spectre (2015)

These events continue to bring stars of the screen together while celebrating the unsung heroes behind the scenes—everyone from production teams to set designers, helping raise awareness and support for their invaluable contributions to the industry.
