How we’ve supported people in the past
"Last year I was signed off work in TV production due to stress. After working in the industry for 17 years I found it to be relentless and I struggled with balancing my professional and personal life. Although taking some time away from the industry was positive for my mental wellbeing, I started to feel nervous that being away for too long would make it impossible for me to manage the pressures of working in production again. Feeling lost and with no idea what to do next, a friend suggested I reach out to the Film and TV Charity to see how their support might be able to help me. I had no idea at that point how much working with the Charity would completely change my life!
Together with my adviser, we created a tangible action plan . She was more than just a career adviser, she was a lifeline, a mentor, and someone to speak to. Over time my confidence began to grow, and I started to feel like I could begin to reach out to the industry again.
By working with my adviser, I’ve learnt how to create boundaries for myself between my professional and personal life. I now carve out time just for me and feel like I can be a better mum to my children because of the support that I've had and the life choices I've been able to make.
Without the Charity, I would never have been able to even think about trying to get back into the industry, the support I was given was just invaluable. I think more people should take advantage of their services.
With the massive skills gap in the industry at the moment, the Charity’s work is even more relevant because it positively influences the longevity of people's careers in TV".
"Having previously received the Charity’s Stop-Gap Grant, I was advised about the Work and Wellbeing service they provide.
As a Working Class, Autistic parent, I often face multiple barriers when it comes to employment opportunities, especially within the film and TV industry. For the last six months, the Charity hasn’t just helped me financially, they’ve also helped my confidence by helping me to re-evaluate my goals and aims when applying for work, and by helping me develop the skills to further my career ambitions.
Their care, support, understanding, and willingness to be there for me in and outside of calls gave me a great sense of reassurance, and has made a positive impact on both my professional and personal lives.
I would wholeheartedly recommend their services. They are incredibly respectful and accommodating of accessibility needs and requirements, and I will continue to champion and advocate for them for the support they offer for those within the film and TV industry."
The Film and TV Charity is vital for the industry because they help people stay working in a job that they love, when at times, it might not seem possible.Anonymous, TV Production Manager
