Development Executive

We’re looking for a Development Executive to lead all aspects of the successful ongoing delivery of the Whole Picture Toolkit, driving our ambition to embed mentally healthy production as an industry standard and support long-term positive change for the charity’s beneficiaries: the workers in film and TV.

 

Reports to:      Director of Impact and Innovation
Contract:         2 Years Fixed Term – flexible – minimum 3 days per week
Salary:              Circa £70,000 FTE depending on experience
Location:         Hybrid / Golden Square, London

 

Key Responsibilities for Development Executive

1. Advocacy and Leadership

    • Responsible for successful delivery of all aspects of the Whole Picture Toolkit, ensuring it becomes the success story it deserves to be.
    • Act as a champion and spokesperson for the Toolkit, proactively creating opportunities to build its profile and ensure the widest possible reach and impact.
    • To ensure the Whole Picture Toolkit remains closely aligned to the overall purpose and positioning of the Charity and supports delivery of the Charity’s strategic objectives.

2. Engagement and Partnerships

    • Develop and deliver a comprehensive strategic engagement strategy, with the aim that the Toolkit becomes a go-to resource that is effectively utilised across the industry.
    • Build effective and mutually beneficial partnerships to maximise the use and impact of the Toolkit and embed it in commissioning and production structures and processes.

3. Product Management

    • Lead development of a product strategy and roadmap for the Toolkit, identifying future development cycles and product releases, informed by user insight and the Toolkit’s strategic aims.
    • Oversee development of new content, working with the team, the Mental Health Lead and other consultants where appropriate to ensure content is based on evidence and best practice, ensuring delivery is agile enough to respond to ongoing learning and changes to the external environment.
    • Maintain a focus on the user experience and customer journey of the Toolkit, following principles of inclusive design to ensure the product is usable, accessible and inclusive, meeting the needs of all beneficiaries, including – but not limited to – Black, Asian and minority ethnic industry workers, disabled industry workers, LGBTQ+ industry workers, and women.
    • Ensure the Toolkit is actively anti-racist and anti-ableist.

4. Impact & Evaluation

    • Work with the Impact and Evaluation Manager to develop a measurable impact framework for the Toolkit.
    • Leverage research, insight and user feedback to shape future iterations of the Toolkit, adding resources
    • Stay up to date with relevant best practice inside and outside the industry.

5. Strategic Development

    • Build a business case for the Toolkit, identifying the range of return on investment delivered by the Toolkit to productions.
    • Explore strategic approaches to ensure the Toolkit is recognised as best practice and embedded as industry standard.
    • Identify long-range potential for the Toolkit, including grant funding and commercial exploitation, working with the Fundraising Team.

6. Other

    • To effectively mitigate and manage any risk that might arise from the Toolkit implementation.
    • To manage and support any consultants or fixed term staff supporting production and delivery of the Toolkit.
    • To take legal advice on the Toolkit as necessary and adhere to relevant legal and statutory requirements including the Data Protection Act and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
    • To supply high quality reports and information as required by the Leadership Team, and other colleagues as appropriate.
    • To undertake any other works as could be expected of a Whole Picture Toolkit Manager
    • To operate in a way that ensures you are recognised as a role model for the Charity’s core values and behaviours.

About the Film & Television Charity

The film, TV and cinema sectors are widely admired and crucial to the UK economy, both in terms of our exceptional creative talent and the sector’s growing economic importance, but a culture of long hours, challenging conditions, and an acceptance of a long-held status quo also mean it can be an incredibly tough sector to work in, with the retention of talent an ongoing problem as a result.

In 2019, the charity found that 9 in 10 working behind the scenes had experienced poor mental health. The pandemic and the harrowing conversation about systemic discrimination that followed the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 have both only served to exacerbate the problem.

Since the introduction of the Film and TV Support Line in 2018, the charity has been on an exciting journey of change and has joined industry partners at the forefront of the movement to make work better for everyone in the industry. As well as providing mental health and financial support and practical resources that are making a difference to thousands of people every year, we have committed to ensuring our services are relevant to and engaging with everyone in the industry, at every stage of their career, no matter what their background. The Whole Picture Toolkit is an online resource aimed at making productions more mentally healthy places to work. It has been written with industry influence and empirically backed good practice guidance, and aims to create a trusted place, combined with an easy-to-use customer journey, that will build confidence in users as to how to make changes in their workplace, that places the emphasis on good mental health.

Launched earlier this year, the Toolkit has got off to an amazing start, with uptake from many production and endorsement from broadcasters and other industry bodies. The enthusiasm across the industry means that there are high ambitions for the Toolkit and its ability to make real, lasting change in mental health in the industry over the coming years.
