A Guide to Ramadan for the film, TV, and cinema industry

In the UK, depending on the moon sighting, Ramadan may begin on the evening of February 28th and end on the evening of March 30th, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Ramadan is one of the most spiritual times of the year for the world’s almost 2 billion Muslims. Together with our community partner UK Muslim Film, we have put together this handy guide, so you can know how to support your Muslim colleagues during this important time in the Islamic Calendar.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, holds immense significance for Muslims worldwide. It’s a time of spiritual growth and devotion, marked by fasting from dawn to dusk. This practice, along with increased prayer and reflection, allows Muslims to connect with their faith, practice self-control, and cultivate empathy for those less fortunate.
Ramadan is also a moment for community, as families and friends gather for pre-dawn meals (Suhoor) and evening meals (Iftar) to break the fast together. Ultimately, Ramadan is a period of self-reflection, spiritual renewal, and strengthening community bonds.
