April
Momentum is a free nine‑month development programme from award‑winning film exhibition and distribution company We Are Parable. Open to emerging Black UK‑based filmmakers and content creators aged 22+, it offers mentorship, industry access, masterclasses and dedicated mental health support. Backed by Channel 4 and Sony Pictures Television, the programme supports 30 participants as they develop projects from early idea through production. Momentum runs from May 2026 to February 2027.

Aesthetica Film Festival has teamed up with Audible, offering two grants of up to £10,000 to fund new documentaries.

Northern Ireland Screen and Docs Ireland, in association with Yellowmoon Postproduction, are offering a chance for new and emerging documentary makers to receive an award of up to £9,000 towards a pilot for a documentary feature.

CrewHQ is dedicated to removing barriers that prevent people from accessing entry-level roles in film and TV production. If you’ve been trying to break into the industry for a while but keep encountering obstacles or repeated rejections, the new CrewHQ Career Cultivator programme is designed to provide meaningful support and training.

The BBC Comedy Collective, which supports and accelerates the next generation of comedy talent, will be open for applications on Wednesday 8 April.
The supercharged bursary scheme offers 10 places each year to mid-level comedy creatives; a mix of writers, writer/performers, producers, directors, and editors who would like to further their careers in scripted comedy.

The Climate Spring Pitch at Sheffield DocFest returns with a new focus on digital-first formats. The pitch is calling for high-impact short-form documentary formats specifically designed for digital platforms. Those shortlisted will pitch their idea live at Sheffield DocFest, with one winner receiving £10k production funding.

Four BFI NETWORK Hubs have teamed up with ScreenSkills’ Animation Fund to launch a new lab for early‑career writers looking to develop their storytelling skills in animation.
The lab supports up to 12 writers through expert speakers, masterclasses and one‑to‑one script development, and runs from 29 June - 30 September. Mostly online, with one in‑person day at Aardman in Bristol (travel covered). Applicants must apply with a short film idea.

The RTS runs two schemes: the TV production and journalism bursary and the digital innovation bursary – awarded to students from low income backgrounds studying any and all subjects as undergraduates or at HND Level 5 or 6. All you have to do is demonstrate your passion for pursuing a career in TV, film, digital content production or related media industries in your application.

Screen Alliance North, the BFI Skills cluster made up of Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen, Screen Manchester and Screen Yorkshire have launched a new Training Opportunities webpage on their current website. If you're based in the North of England you may find skills training that is relevant for you.
With online sessions taking place in the new year, this course from Screenskills is designed as an introduction to BSL to hep equip television freelancers with BSL skills. The course is mainly aimed at HoDs, line producers, production managers, producers, coordinators, and assistant directors.
