Sometimes what people need isn't networking. It's connection. Route to Set is a new monthly walking community for people working across film, TV, and the wider screen industries.
A chance to get outdoors, spend time with others who understand the realities of freelance and project-based work, and share a few stories along the way. No membership fees, no networking agenda, no expectations.
The first Route to Set takes place in Hyde Park on Sunday 19th July - join the WhatsApp Community if you’d like to go along!

Applications for a new course from Screenskills and Production Guild: VFX management essentials for unscripted HETV and docs with theatrical release is now open - with the course taking place on 18th and 19th July.

Channel 4 has announced a new proof-of-concept development fund designed to back big, original British unscripted formats.
An opportunity to pitch your biggest and most brilliant ideas, the fund will greenlight three to five concepts, offering £100,000 each to provide substantial development support to indies.

A panel and networking for LGBTQIA+ women/non-binary media pros, taking place on Tuesday, July 21st. The event is free to attend and is also Trans inclusive - allies are also very welcome!

The Performance Short Film Competition 2026 is now open for entries, giving filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work to a wider audience. Eligible films must have been completed after 1 January 2025 and be no longer than 20 minutes.
Deadline: Thursday 30 July

Focussed on supporting emerging filmmakers, the fund aims to champion bold new voices and broaden the range of stories represented in UK cinema. To be eligible, teams applying with a live-action or animated fiction directorial debut must submit a fully developed script, alongside a comprehensive production and financing plan.
Deadline: Thursday 13th August
New Voices: Step Up is a mentoring scheme for working-class directors and screenwriters, in partnership with Bristol AF Productions. Mentees will benefit from three 45-minute online meetings with industry professionals over a four-month period. We aim to inspire and motivate, and to provide tools, resources and plans for their next steps.

Banijay are running Brightbulb, a unique entry level opportunity that welcomes applications from diverse talent. No need for either experience or qualifications - just a passion for content, plenty of enthusiasm and a brain fizzing with fresh ideas.

Are you a filmmaker, producer, writer, director, artist or other based in and around Slough?
If you're looking to build your network of creative and like-minded individuals and have the chance to discuss and present your work to a cohort of local visionaries, then join Resource Productions at their next Creative Collective Meet Up on Wednesday 16th September.

Working with local industry, education and training providers, BFI National Lottery Skills Clusters help people within local communities develop their skills and pursue a career in the screen sector. An additional £2.85m of funding is now available to areas of the UK that are not already supported by a BFI Skills Cluster, where there is evidence of forecasted growth in screen production and where skills gaps or shortages are prevalent. Eligible organisations must be based in, or work with partners in, East Midlands, East of England, the South West, or the South East.
Deadline: Friday 25th September, 4pm

Unscripted Productions get funding to support job-sharers! Productions receive up to £8k to cover a crossover day and job-sharers receive one-to-one support from ReelTime Media.
All job roles can be considered. This new programme is funded by the ScreenSkills Unscripted TV Skills Fund and Prime Video Pathway.

House of Dogstar, is a new community bringing together creatives, industry professionals and investors - a space where ideas, people and opportunities connect. Soft launched at Mythos Manchester last month, you can register your interest at House of Dogstar to keep up to date.

Screen Alliance North, the BFI Skills cluster made up of Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen, Screen Manchester and Screen Yorkshire have launched a new Training Opportunities webpage on their current website. If you're based in the North of England you may find skills training that is relevant for you.
With online sessions taking place in the new year, this course from Screenskills is designed as an introduction to BSL to hep equip television freelancers with BSL skills. The course is mainly aimed at HoDs, line producers, production managers, producers, coordinators, and assistant directors.
