The WFTV Short Film Fund will support two women and non-binary led filmmaking teams with a fully backed production package, including £25,000 in cash funding, £25,000 in kit rentals, post-production support, and industry mentoring. More than a grant, it offers everything needed to take a short film from idea to screen.

Join InterMediaUK and Immediate Media for an inclusive industry networking social on Tuesday 27 October, 5.30–7.30pm at Immediate’s HQ, 44 Brook Green, London W6 7BT, open to LGBTQIA+ people and allies across the industry.

On Thursday 29 October at 7pm, Out & Wild will mark Black History Month with a special spoken word night at YOTEL London City, Farringdon, celebrating this year’s theme, ‘Honouring Our Communities’. This event has been made possible thanks to a Pride in London Unity Fund grant and is supported by InterMediaUK.

Passionate about a career in screen? Screen Yorkshire’s Screen Diversity Programme offers part-time training to build your skills and confidence. Open to people aged 19+ in York and North Yorkshire who haven’t taken part in a Skills Bootcamp in the last 12 months.

Grierson DocLab: Development is offering eight UK-based documentary professionals training, mentoring and work placement opportunities to help progress their careers in development. Open to those with 3–8 years’ industry experience, including experience as a development researcher or development AP.

Women and the World International Film Festival returns to London from 5–12 November 2026 with free industry events for emerging filmmakers, actors and screen professionals. The programme includes workshops, panels, networking and pitching opportunities, with the chance to connect with industry experts, develop skills and find collaborators. All industry events are free, but advance booking is required.

BFI NETWORK Early Development funding supports writers with a strong creative track record to develop debut long-form projects. It helps writers without a first draft create an initial treatment exploring the story, characters, themes and structure, alongside supporting visual materials.

ScreenSkills Trainee Finder is an entry-level programme designed to help launch careers in the UK screen industries. It gives aspiring talent the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience on film, children’s and high-end television productions across the UK, including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, providing a valuable route into the sector.

Underscore Studios, a grassroots social enterprise and not-for-profit organisation dedicated to amplifying working-class filmmakers across the UK, has just launched its own film fund. A new annual opportunity supporting working-class filmmakers across the UK through funding, mentorship and practical support. The fund will provide the selected filmmaker with production finance, festival support, mentorship and practical guidance.

All Spring Media are offering fully funded Skills Bootcamps for people looking to enter or progress within film and TV. Current training opportunities open for applications include Production Coordinator - deadline 5 November and Production Assistant - deadline 12 November.

Looking to meet your creative industry peers but without a large ticket price attached? You need FSTVS and its various free, open-to-all, events around the country and beyond. They’ll be in Manchester on November 11th, and London on December 17th.

Ongoing opportunities and events
Post Super is delivering ScreenSkills’ free Budgeting for Post Production: High-End TV and Film programme for UK-based Post Coordinators and Post Supervisors. The programme combines online learning with in-person workshops in London, Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow. Learn more and apply via Post Super.

Designed to create a focused and impactful experience for creatives across film, television, fashion, and media, The Kusp’s new programme offers mentees clear guidance while giving mentors a meaningful opportunity to share their expertise. Over the four-week programme, participants can follow one of two dedicated pathways: Career-Based Mentorship or Project-Based Mentorship. This tailored approach helps both mentors and mentees stay focused on their specific goals, enabling more relevant support, stronger connections, and greater impact.
Want to work in film and TV, or know someone aged 16–25 who does? BFI have just launched brand-new BFI Film Academy Hub across the UK. Free to join, the Hubs are welcoming spaces where young people can explore careers, build confidence, develop new technical skills and discover opportunities in film, TV and beyond.

House of Dogstar, is a new community bringing together creatives, industry professionals and investors - a space where ideas, people and opportunities connect. Soft launched at Mythos Manchester last month, you can register your interest at House of Dogstar to keep up to date.

Screen Alliance North, the BFI Skills cluster made up of Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen, Screen Manchester and Screen Yorkshire have launched a new Training Opportunities webpage on their current website. If you're based in the North of England you may find skills training that is relevant for you.
With online sessions taking place in the new year, this course from Screenskills is designed as an introduction to BSL to hep equip television freelancers with BSL skills. The course is mainly aimed at HoDs, line producers, production managers, producers, coordinators, and assistant directors.
