Why should you apply for Reel Impact?
Igniting change and creating equity for the Black and Global Majority
Reel Impact is an exciting new programme that will ignite change in the industry. We’ve taken the time to get it right, and I’ll be honest, it’s not always been plain sailing!
As the Programme Manager, I’m pleased and excited that we are launching a programme, with a fitting title, that will provide an opportunity for both Black and Global Majority individuals and Black and Global Majority organisations and production companies to make what might feel impossible… possible.
Developing Reel Impact
In developing Reel Impact, we’ve removed some of the barriers that people face, making sure to leave the criteria for the funding purposely broad. This includes 3 years’ industry experience, living and working in the UK and the obvious identifying as a Black and Global Majority individual or owned organisation.
Behind the scenes talent know what they need, so through the application process, we are making it possible for candidates to tell us exactly how the grant will help to ignite change and create equity for Black and Global Majority people.
Access to opportunities
Reel Impact will not solve every problem in the industry. Systemic racism and discrimination are not going to disappear overnight, however what Reel Impact will provide is a platform for storytelling, recognising talent and providing access to opportunities that may not have been available previously.
From the conversations I’ve had with people across our industry, the feedback is positive, with Reel Impact providing hope that some haven’t felt for some time.
I have seen promises and programmes that provide support for Black and Global Majority people come and go, and I’m so glad that the Charity didn’t rush into something that might have felt like a knee jerk reaction to someone else’s trauma.
Driving change together
Personally, as a Black woman, in an industry that is not always made for us, I can’t help but feel a real sense of responsibility to ensure that the Charity, its stakeholders, and the industry, come together to drive change that will make a significant difference to the lives of Black and Global Majority people behind the scenes in film, TV and cinema.
Finally, my call to action is…let’s unite to change the narrative, celebrate diversity and work together towards a brighter, more inclusive future.
The deadline to apply is 30th June 2024 at 5:00pm.
