Why Supporting the Film and TV Charity Matters

Today is International Day of Charity – a global opportunity to highlight the importance of giving, volunteering, and philanthropy to commemorate one of the world’s greatest philanthropists, Mother Teresa.

This day is particularly significant for us at the Film and TV Charity because it allows us to celebrate our donors and fundraisers and showcase the impact their contributions have on supporting the behind-the-scenes heroes of the film and TV industry. Whether through creating your own fundraiser or setting up a regular monthly donation, there are many ways you can get involved in giving back to an industry you love.

How You Can Make a Difference

Building a strong community

Over the last few years, we’ve seen the Charity become the film, TV, and cinema industry’s natural choice when deciding on a cause to support. From grass-roots campaigns by individuals, right through to larger corporate fundraisers, our strong community of supporters know that when we work together, we can create real change to the people in the industry that we all love.

Companies that fundraise for us experience their own benefits too. Fundraising brings their teams together, builds morale, and improves staff wellbeing – all while doing something to make our industry better.

Charity isn’t just a one-way street

As the Individual Giving Manager, I’m fortunate to thank donors and fundraisers personally, and to hear their reasons for supporting us. Many of our individual fundraisers have been beneficiaries of the Charity’s support and choose to donate as a way of giving back or paying it forward” to help others in need.

These stories remind us daily of the profound impact we have on people’s lives.

I just wanted to say thank you to you and the whole team at the Film and TV Charity. I personally would not be where I am today without having benefited from your support several times since the pandemic. It was a true pleasure for me to donate today for the first time and hopefully not the last. It shows me how far I’ve come and makes me proud knowing how well the funds will be used having experienced the other side.

How can you help?

But we’re not complacent – the last few years have hit many in our industry hard and they need us now more than ever. So, if you can, here are some ways you can help us:

Donate to support film workers today

Every pound you donate directly helps us support people who are struggling in the industry. Since 2018, we’ve answered more than 15,000 calls to our Support Line, and we’ve given 3,500+ grants to people in financial difficulty in the last two years alone. Your donation can help us continue this vital work, so please donate and make an impact.

Fundraise for us

Our fundraisers are an innovative lot! This year, we’ve had two Euros-themed fundraisers, a comedy night, and a gala dinner! No idea is a bad one – raising money while doing something you enjoy makes it much easier. And if you’re a sporty type, we often have entries to some of the country’s biggest runs like the Brighton Marathon.
