A question I’ve been asked a few times since I became CEO at the Film and TV Charity is how you can claim to be confidential and independent while also working with, and being supported, by some of the biggest organisations in film, TV, and cinema?’

The answer is pretty straightforward. Ensuring our independence and the confidentiality of the people we support is paramount to the effectiveness of our work – and we continually uphold best working practices, follow strict GDPR rules, and adhere to the governance of the Charity Commission. But more importantly than that, we put our beneficiaries, the people we help every day, at the very heart of everything we do.

We know that reaching out for help on an issue in the workplace can be daunting, especially in an industry with a reputation for being tough where you’re often made to feel that you’re only as good as your last reference. But our services are solely focused on people getting the help they need, without the added worry of things being kept confidential. That means that if you call our Support Line, or contact our Bullying Adviser for help, if you apply for a grant, or access counselling – in fact however you interact with the Film and TV Charity, you do so in complete confidence. It also means that our work and partnerships with organisations across the industry, from major donors to our Mental Health Taskforce, is carried out in total independence from the services we provide.

To find out more, read our privacy policy and check out our Bullying Advice Service, for details on how we maintain confidentiality.

Our door is always open to anyone who would like to provide feedback or thoughts on the services we provide. So, if you’d like us to address any concerns, or have thoughts on how you think we could improve the support we offer the industry, please email [email protected]
